Meet Livonia Lock and Key’s Owner, John Williamson
John Williamson purchased Livonia Lock and Key in 1984 when he left an 18-year career with Kroger and turned his locksmithing hobby into a full-time business. Cindy Williamson, John’s wife of 42 years, is Livonia Lock and Key’s co-owner.
John is a locksmith through and through. What started as a passion and side job ended up as a career, and John never looked back. John, who was a certified registered locksmith (CRL) through the locksmith’s national association, Associated Locksmiths of America (ALOA), has always been enthusiastic about new developments in the field. John has taken numerous locksmith classes to keep his skills up to date, including mechanical locking, electronic locking, and courses on battery-powered digital locks.
As a new shop owner, John was eager to get involved in locksmith organizations as well as his local community. He became a member of several local locksmith associations, such as MMLA and LSA. He has proudly served on two organization’s boards for many years as Treasurer. Livonia Lock and Key has been an active member of the Livonia Chamber of Commerce for 35 years and has received several plaques for recognition.
John is a Livonia guy, too. He and Cindy are long-time residents of Livonia, where they have raised their two children and stay involved in the local community. Besides his family and running a business, John finds time from late spring to fall to play on two golf leagues, Salem Hills and Fox Creek Livonia.
Dan Pettinga, Skilled and Emergency Locksmith at Livonia Lock and Key
Dan Pettinga started with Livonia Lock and Key in 2013. Dan is also a Livonia resident: he and his wife Kim are raising a family of three girls, Kaleigh, Nora, & Heidi, not far from the store. That makes it easy for Dan to be in charge of the emergency locksmith after hour service!
While working as an apprentice, Dan studied locksmithing and earned his certification from ALOA. Besides the general locksmithing classes, Dan has taken an interest in and specializes in electronic locking systems. He is also adept with the programming of digital locking, installation of mechanical hardware & door closers.
He is very skilled in rekeying & setting up master systems, which is required by many of our business and commercial clients. He is also our emergency go-to-guy for any emergency lockout, whether auto, residential, or business.
Dan has a sunny disposition. His is a big easy smile and a cheerful greeting for everyone, and naturally, he gets along great with all of our customers. Dan has a huge love for all sports, and especially enjoys fantasy baseball and fantasy football.
Bob Williamson, Your Reliable, Local Locksmith in Livonia, MI
Robert (Bob) Williamson, is John’s son and joined the business in 2006. Although Bob and his family live in Clarkston, he is an early riser and drives in to open the store every day. He gets the schedules set up, and by the time everyone else comes in, he has the day mapped out.
Bob has studied locksmithing with his father and has taken several classes among the curriculum of general locksmith services. He specializes in low voltage electronic hardware: strikes, digital keypads, power closers, magnetic locking, and electric locking locksets. He is skilled with mechanical hardware installation on hollow metal doors with metal frames and in keying IC core lock cylinders and master systems. We like to say that there is not a lock made that Bob cannot install!
When away from the store, Bob’s hobby is working on cars, and currently, he is helping a friend with a drag race car project. Bob also enjoys working on small engine equipment, such as lawnmowers and snowblowers, and especially spending time with his two children, Jordon and Kelsi.
